The data used in qualification

What Level 2 and Level 3 actually add.

Commercial-card programs can evaluate tax, customer, invoice, PO, and line-item fields alongside card type and other current criteria. Lifted Gateway can append configured fields on eligible transactions.

  • Level 2 — tax & codes. Sales-tax amount, customer code, and invoice or PO number attached to each sale.
  • Level 3 — full line items. Per-line quantity, unit of measure, unit price, and commodity codes — the detail purchasing departments and government buyers require.
  • Appended automatically. No extra keying at the counter — the gateway builds the L2/L3 payload on eligible transactions.
  • One Lifted relationship. Gateway configuration, merchant processing, reporting, and optional custom workflows are designed and supported together.
Commercial-card qualification, without the mythology

How interchange optimization with Level 2/3 data works

Interchange optimization with Level 2/3 data is a qualification process, not a universal discount. A correctly enriched commercial transaction may qualify for a different interchange category when it meets every applicable network and acquirer criterion; the goal is to submit the valid fields those current programs expect.

01 · Identify

Start with an eligible commercial card.

Corporate, purchasing, government, and other commercial products can follow program rules that consumer cards do not. Card product and transaction context come first.

02 · Enrich

Attach complete, valid transaction data.

Lifted Gateway can append configured tax, customer, invoice, PO, and line-item fields on eligible transactions without repetitive staff keying.

03 · Qualify

Let current program criteria decide.

The network and acquirer assess the card, data, timing, transaction, and current program rules. Enhanced data can help, but does not guarantee a particular interchange category or savings.

Check the primary sources: Visa's current U.S. interchange reimbursement fee table and Mastercard's merchant interchange guidance. Published tables and criteria change; your assessed result is transaction-specific.

Who benefits most

If your customers pay on commercial cards, this is for you.

B2B sellers

Wholesalers, distributors, and suppliers whose buyers pay with corporate and purchasing cards can evaluate the effect of valid enhanced data across meaningful commercial-card volume.

Government & education

Vendors invoicing agencies, districts, and universities on GSA and purchasing cards — where L2/L3 detail is often required, not optional.

Corporate-card acceptors

Any business taking a meaningful share of corporate or commercial cards can review qualification transaction by transaction instead of assuming one rate applies to every sale.

One console, one book

Reporting, eligible refunds, and richer data — in one gateway.

The same product that supports richer commercial-card data gives merchants live operating visibility and refunds for qualifying completed transactions. Its saved-card browser charge workflow remains in release gating. It can sit alongside Lifted Pay, Lifted POS, and the merchant portal.

Questions

Level 2/3, answered straight.

What is Level 2/3 processing?
Level 2 and Level 3 are extra data the card networks ask for on commercial-card transactions — tax amount, customer and invoice/PO codes (Level 2), and full line-item detail like quantity, unit of measure, and commodity codes (Level 3). Valid enhanced data can be one factor in an eligible transaction's interchange qualification, but every current network and acquirer criterion still applies.
How much can Level 2/3 save me?
It depends on commercial-card mix, ticket size, card type, submitted data, current network tables, and acquirer configuration. Enhanced data may help an eligible transaction qualify for a different commercial category, but it does not guarantee a particular interchange category or savings. Start with a merchant application →
Do I have to enter the Level 2/3 data manually?
Lifted Gateway can append configured Level 2 and Level 3 fields automatically on eligible transactions, reducing repetitive staff entry. The transaction still must meet the applicable network and acquirer criteria.
Which cards qualify for Level 2/3 rates?
Commercial cards — B2B, corporate, purchasing, and government cards. Consumer credit and debit cards don't use Level 2/3 interchange. Actual qualification depends on card type, network rules, and the data submitted.
